Featuring Chinese porcelain uncovered during excavations of 1607 James Fort on Jamestown Island and intact objects from global lenders, the exhibition examines who may have owned these evocative pieces, how they may have been acquired, and offers fresh insights into the social life of the early 17th-century Virginia elite. Selected by our Student Engagement Committee, participants will work with one of the artists in our current special exhibition, “Fresh Views of the American Revolution” for a three-hour workshop where they will learn about the artist’s work and what inspires them, and then create their own work based on the artist’s art medium. Jamestown Day Commemoration

The 419th anniversary of the 1607 founding of Jamestown is marked with an artillery salute, maritime demonstrations and interpretive programs. Visitors can learn about the 1607 founding of Jamestown and the convergence of the Virginia Indian, English and West Central African cultures in 17th-century Virginia through expansive exhibits and outdoor living-history experiences. Hear the sounds of pipes and drums fill the air, march through the Continental Army encampment, and spend some time examining clothing styles of "Jacobian rebels." Time travel from the 18th century to discover how women served in World War II, just like Claire in the STARZ hit Outlander television series.


World Bee Day

The museum shops at Jamestown Settlement celebrated “World Bee Day” with honeybee-related activities and vendor presentations. The event honored the 404th anniversary of the first recorded honeybees in North America. European honeybees most familiar to people today are not native to the continent, and they first landed in Virginia in 1622 when the Virginia Company of London sent a ship carrying the first beehives.
